Infrared radiation from a Bunsen flame.

چکیده
Many observers have studied th e infrared emi sion of a Bunsen flame [11. 2 The strongest band ocem s at about 4.4 Il and is produced by carbon dioxid e. Other bands have been found a t 0.95, 1.45, 2.0, and 2.8 Il , and are a ttributed to carbon dioxide and water vapor. Very little radiation has been observed in the region beyond 7 Il . In the visible and ultraviolet regions of the spectrum, considerahle progress has been made in the study of flames [21. By the use of instruments with good resolution and by detecting with pho tographic plates that average out the fluctuations of the flame, many band systems have been identified . The band systems include such atomic groups as OH, ON, NO, OH , and NH. The ques tion may be asked why the spectra of such groups have not been 'observed in the infrared region. The probable reason is tha t sufficiently high resolution has not been applied in the infrared region to separate properly the spectra of the different groups. Also, slight fluctuations in the flames make i t difficult to obtain accura te meas-

Investigation of Bunsen flame dynamics by the method of characteristics
Understanding the dynamics and the stabilisation of flames is important for practical applications and for theoretical research. Here, to investigate the time-evolution of a Bunsen flame in a Poiseuille flow, we extend a G-equation-based kinematic model by accounting for flame stabilisation. The nonlinear G-equation is solved analytically using the methods of characteristics. The solution is th...
متن کاملThe Role of Turbulence in Darrieus-Landau Instability
Experimental propane/air Bunsen flame at atmospheric pressure are investigated in the context of DarrieusLandau (DL) instability. Results from asymptotic theory are utilized in order to estimate the non-dimensional critical length scale δc = LD/λc (LD the flame thickness and λc the critical length scale). The non-dimensional flame thickness δ = LD/L is varied either by varying the equivalence r...
متن کاملResolution Requirements in Stochastic Field Simulation of Turbulent Premixed Flames
The spatial resolution requirements of the Stochastic Fields probability density function approach are investigated in the context of turbulent premixed combustion simulation. The Stochastic Fields approach is an attractive way to implement transported Probability Density Function modelling into Large Eddy Simulations of turbulent combustion. In premixed combustion LES, the numerical grid shoul...
متن کاملThermodynamics of an Ice Age: The Cause and Sequence of Glaciation.
The Fisher Burner produces an intensly hot flame for all types of laboratory heating operations including many ignitions and incinerations which otherwise would require the use of compressed air. Instead of the cold cone and hot tip characteristic of the Bunsen flame, the Fisher flame is short and wide and is uniformly hot throughout.
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Investigation of the Acoustic Response of Multi-Slit Bunsen Burners
Experimental and numerical techniques to characterize the response of premixed methane-air flames to acoustic waves are discussed and applied to a multi-slit Bunsen burner. The steady flame shape, flame front kinematics and flow field of acoustically exited flames, as well as the flame transfer function and matrix are computed. The numerical results are compared with experiments. The influence ...
